Install QuickBooks Database Server

Close any running programs on your own dedicated file server computer, including virus protection programs which may interfere with all the installation. Press "ALT-F4" and close any running applications in Windows 8.

Insert the QuickBooks CD into the optical drive and commence the installation program. If you have a downloaded version of QuickBooks, double-click the installer file.

Click "Yes to all or any" when promoted to overwrite existing files. Click "Next" and consent to the license agreement. Click "Next" again.

Select "Custom and Network Options" and choose the possibility it doesn't require a license and allows you to install only the files to generally share your company file throughout the network.

Select the "More Than One User" option and "Install Database Server Only." Follow the prompts that guide you through the installation. Choose the choice to allow access for other computers to open up files on this computer. Click "Next."

Click "Install." Click "Finish" to start QuickBooks.

Configure QuickBooks Database Server Access

Click the "File" and "Utilities" menu in QuickBooks.

Click on the "File" menu, "Utilities" and "Host Multi-User Access" on the computer you want to use for administrator access.

Click the "Company" menu and "Set Up Users and Passwords."

Select "Set Up Users" and "Add User."

Add a username and password and choose the access options for an individual and also the changing or deleting transaction choices for the consumer. Click "Finish."

Open QuickBooks for each computer attached to the network. Click the "File" menu and "Open or Restore" Company.
